Educational Visit of Undiknas Tourism Destination Program to Virgin Beach and Bukit Asah Karangasem
Denpasar, Bali ā On June 14, 2024, the Tourism Destination Study Program at Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) conducted an educational visit to Virgin Beach and Bukit Asah in Karangasem. This visit was attended by students from the Tourism Destination Program, accompanied by faculty members from the same program.
The primary objective of this visit was to educate students about the potential tourist destinations at Virgin Beach and Bukit Asah Karangasem. Through this visit, students were expected to gain a deeper understanding of sustainable tourism destination management, in line with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Virgin Beach and Bukit Asah Karangasem are tourist destinations known for their extraordinary natural beauty. Students were given the opportunity to study various aspects of tourism, including environmental management, the preservation of local culture, and the economic development of local communities. In his remarks, one of the accompanying faculty members stated that this visit is part of the university’s efforts to support the achievement of the SDGs, particularly Goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, Goal 12 on responsible consumption and production, and Goal 14 on life below water.
During the visit, students were invited to engage in direct discussions with local tourism destination managers. They gained insights into how Virgin Beach and Bukit Asah are managed with consideration for environmental sustainability and local community empowerment. Education on the importance of keeping beaches clean, proper waste management, and respecting local customs was a key part of this visit.
This activity is also an implementation of field-based education. Students not only learn theory in the classroom but also apply their knowledge directly in the field. “Through this visit, we hope students can see firsthand how the theories they learn in class are applied in real-life situations. This is a valuable experience that will help them become competent professionals in the tourism industry,” said one of the accompanying faculty members.
With this educational visit, Universitas Pendidikan Nasional continues its commitment to providing holistic and relevant education for its students. This approach aligns with the university’s efforts to support the achievement of the SDGs and to prepare students to become agents of change who contribute to the sustainable development of tourism in Indonesia.
Students participating in this visit are expected to bring the knowledge and experience they gained into real-world practice in the future, and to participate in efforts to preserve and develop sustainable tourist destinations. Universitas Pendidikan Nasional believes that through education and direct experience, students will be better prepared to face global challenges and contribute positively to society.
