Undiknas Presents at the 10th World Water Forum: Identifying Global Water Problems and Solutions
Denpasar – Universitas Pendidikan Nasional (Undiknas) participated in the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali from May 18-24, 2024. This largest water sector forum in the world was attended by 33 heads of state and 190 ministers from 180 countries, including academics, practitioners, and students from various parts of the world. Undiknas’ presence at this event demonstrates the university’s commitment to addressing global water resource issues that are becoming increasingly urgent amid rising water demands and difficulties in accessing quality and sustainable water.
On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Universitas Pendidikan Nasional participated in the seminar agenda held during the forum. The seminar not only discussed technical water-related issues but also touched on legal, social, and economic aspects. Participants gained insights into how the culture of each country can play a role in preserving water, including the conservation of water sources, rivers, and lakes, ensuring their long-term usability.
In an interview, I Gusti Ngurah Putu Dharmayasa, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., a lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering who attended the event, stated, “We were invited to attend a seminar agenda attended by various countries from all continents to see what problems they are facing and their strategies in overcoming these issues.”
Ngurah Dharmayasa also added, “This is important for Undiknas students to identify water-related problems.” This opportunity provides students with valuable experiences to understand the various strategies implemented by other countries in dealing with complex water challenges.
The 10th World Water Forum served as a platform for participants to share knowledge and experiences and seek innovative solutions to ensure the availability of quality and sustainable water for all. Undiknas’ presence at this forum not only broadens students’ horizons but also strengthens the university’s position in contributing to global issues.
On this occasion, I Gusti Ngurah Putu Dharmayasa, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., also delivered an official statement on behalf of Undiknas. “I have given a statement representing Undiknas to the committee,” he said. Active participation in the 10th World Water Forum is expected to have a positive impact on the development of knowledge and water conservation practices in Indonesia, as well as support global efforts to tackle the water crisis.
Undiknas’ involvement in the 10th World Water Forum also demonstrates the institution’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which focuses on Clean Water and Sanitation. Participation in this forum allows Undiknas students and lecturers to learn about innovations and best practices in water management that can be applied in Indonesia to improve water quality and access.
Through participation in the World Water Forum, Undiknas fully supports the SDGs and contributes to global efforts to address water challenges, improve quality of life, and ensure the sustainability of water resources for future generations.
